Changes

Long-term visitors may have deja-vu about this post but it has been updated for the new blog as I am now, slowly, beginning the process of transferring across old entries.

I will only be moving over pieces that are currently or historically relevant and also have some merit to them - i.e. they are at least somewhat original.

As I said before, this blog has been around for quite a while now. After 3 years of typing, I wrote my last post on the old blog in September 2008. How time files, it seems just like yesterday as I write this but it was actually 18 months ago!

The simple fact was that the vast majority of the 390 pieces on the previous incarnation of the blog were just pointers to other articles or news pieces on the web. There are sites out there that do this better than I and have more time available to provide this service. I've retained the links to these sites just for the sake of consistency of content:

  • Photography Blog - a well maintained and frequently updated source of news.
  • Digital Photography Review - not always the most comprehensive coverage of the news but does post good reviews of a selection of cameras.
  • Luminous Landscape - not as well maintained as it used to be but this site does still have some unusual and interesting articles.
  • The Online Photographer - frequently updated and with a lot of discussion. This site is often controversial, you may not always agree with the posts but they do stimulate.
  • Reid Reviews - this is a paid site but it has extremely well written and very in-depth articles. The reviews of equipment are very good and deal with what it’s like to use equipment as well as the real-world technical results. A large proportion of the pieces are on range-finder cameras such as the Leica M-series.
  • Photoshop News - a good site for keeping up-to-date with the latest Photoshop news. It’s aptly named.
  • Lightroom News - similar to Photoshop News but exclusively for Lightroom.

Since this is a Mac and Photography blog, a few others of interest to Mac users are:

  • MacNN - a good source of Apple news, with some rumours and non-Mac content.
  • Macworld - another source of Apple news and reviews.
  • MacRumors - as the name suggests this is mainly rumour based Apple news.

As for future posts, I have no intention of stopping but I won’t be posting much either. I still have other commitments, mostly my photography and so I’m intending to use what time I do have to post with original content. The simple "comment and point" nature of the site will largely stop. I can't promise I won't lapse occationally though.
